The God of the Old Testament

Brethren, I have no interest in hurting the UCG CoE by waiting until they approve their Paper and then analyzing it.  Quite the contrary I have felt moved to compile and publish this study before the CoE approves a Paper in December.  This Paper is published in love and concern, and in the hope that they will consider these points as they produce and approve their own Position Paper.

The UCG CoE recently instructed their Doctrinal Committee to prepare a paper on the nature of God, for approval at their scheduled December 3 – 6 conference.and the issue was discussed at the last scheduled CoE conference.

They denied that the proposed new position was a change to existing beliefs when in fact they are making a profound change in existing beliefs and insisting that no changes are being made: Why?  Because they want to make the change via a CoE vote and avoid having the issue face a GCE vote where it would need 75% to be accepted and added to the List of Fundamental Beliefs!  This is “change by interpretation.”

I addressed the fact that this new position is a profound change from existing beliefs, but those who want further corroboration from an Armstrong source should read this article on the subject by Fred Coulter.  Fred and I do not agree on various things but this article reflects the existing teaching on the subject from HWA and throughout the Armstrong based COG entities [including today’s UCG] accurately.

The God of the Old Testament

Today’s post is a study of the actual subject of who the God known to the ancients was:  The Father or the Being who later gave up his Godhood to be made flesh as Jesus Christ.  The new position discussed was that BOTH the Father and the Being who later gave up his Godhood to be made flesh as Jesus Christ were known and worked with the ancients.

The Doctrine of Access to God the Father

The most profound and basic lesson of the Old Testament; is that mankind was and is separated from the Father by a veil of sin; and that  access to the Father comes ONLY through sincere repentance and the mediatorial sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  The example of an intercessory priesthood, the lesson of the Passover and Exodus and the very plan of the tabernacle and temple all teach this foundational doctrinal (Heb 9:7, Exodus 26:31-35).

The very idea that God the Father directly involved himself with sinful human beings in the Old Testament including Mosaic Israel; without the redeeming sacrifice of reconciliation and atonement for repented sin being made and accepted for us; is anathema to the doctrines of Salvation and the ONLY access to the Father being through the Son!

Sin separates us from God the Father (Is 59:1-2) as is made clear by the drapery separating the Most Holy Place and access to the throne of God the Father.

Hebrews 9:8 The Holy Ghost this signifying, that the way into the holiest of all [access to God the Father] was not yet made manifest [access to God the Father (even his existence as one individual Being in a God consisting of more than one person) was not known and was not available to Mosaic Israel], while as the first tabernacle [the Mosaic Covenant with its tabernacle temple] was yet standing:

As Paul says, the plan of the very tabernacle and temple teaches us that except for those specially spiritually called out to the New Covenant; humanity has been and is separated from God the Father by a veil of sin, and is cut off from access to God the Father.

Brethren, have we gotten so very far from God today that we cannot understand this basic doctrine?  The doctrine of salvation and access to God the Father through sincere repentance and the application of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God!

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by [or through] me.

Mankind was separated from the Father by sin and the Father did not involve himself directly with humanity before the Spokesman was made flesh and died in sacrifice to reconcile humanity to the Father.

Before the sacrifice of the Lamb of God, there was no sacrifice or atonement for sin and therefore there was no knowledge of nor access to; God the Father.  Yes, some of the ancients worshiped the Most High God, but they did so not knowing that “God” consisted of two Beings.

The Most High God Being, Jesus Christ, stands between mankind and the Most High God the Father as the spirit High Priest Melchizedek, who was made flesh as Jesus Christ to die redeeming us from all sincerely repented sins.

Jesus Christ is the DOOR to God the Father; no one can have access to God the Father except through the DOOR of Jesus Christ. No, God the Father did not have an active personal relationship with humanity before an efficacious sacrifice for sin was made by the Lamb of God.

It was the God Being who later gave up his Godhood to become flesh as Jesus Christ and was sacrificed, thereby reconciling the sincerely repentant to the Father: who acted for the Father with mankind in the Old Testament.

In the past the Father had NO direct relationship with mankind; the Spokesman acted on his behalf; until an acceptable sacrifice was made, atoning for repented sin and reconciling the sincerely repentant to God the Father.

Even today God the Father has no relationship with humanity except through sincere repentance and the application of the atoning sacrifice of his Spokesman who was and is Melchizedek [Jesus Christ] the Logos (John 1).

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

Jesus Christ not only revealed that God consisted of two Beings, but by his perfect life and flawless sacrifice he reconciled the sincerely repentant to the Father and enabled their access to God the Father!

No, God the Father did not interact with the ancients, because their sins separated the people from him until an effectual sacrifice could be made; the sacrifice of the Spokesman, the spirit High Priest Mediator and Redeemer,  the Lamb of God!

Even today, after the atoning sacrifice of the Lamb of God has been made and accepted; mankind is cut off from God the Father by their sins until they sincerely repent and that sacrifice is applied to them.

The idea that God the Father was involved with mankind without the sacrifice of Christ does away with the truth that ONLY by the application of the sacrifice can mankind be reconciled to and gain access to God the Father.

Have we forgotten that it is ONLY by sincere repentance and the application of the sacrifice of Christ, that we become the children of God and thereby have access to God the Father and the right to call him Father?

Galatians 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

Please read the Hebrews study. and study through all of the Epistles.

The Tetragrammaton YHVH

NOTE: The Tetragrammaton is variously written as YHVH or YHWH

Genesis 1:26  And God (Elohim, plural: Mighty Ones) said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: . .  [From the very beginning, creation is represented as a collaborative effort of two Mighty Beings.]

Genesis 3:22 reflects the same plurality of Beings,  And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:..

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God [Elohim; Mighty Ones] created . . .  The term translated God here is Elohim which  means “Mighty Ones.”   The singular of Elohim being El meaning a Lord or Mighty One, a ruler.

Later, because men had made many gods [mighty ones] it was no longer adequate to simply call the true God Elohim [Mighty Ones] since one Elohim would only be one of multitudes of gods; and  the Creator Mighty One therefore identified himself to Moses as YHVH to separate YHVH from all the other mighty ones or gods of the nations, and to separate himself from the mighty ones of Egypt.

This introduced a specific name for the True God to differentiate the Creator from other mighty ones [Elohim].  The term Elohim originally meant – until men perverted it – a family of at least two Creator beings; one the Executive Creating Authority who later became God the Father and one the Implementing Creating Authority who later gave up his God-hood to become the Son.

The term Elohim meant at least two creating Beings and the word YHVH also identified the  same two Creator Beings as eternally existing and as separate from all other mighty ones.

The name YHVH means simply “I AM” or “I Am self existent and eternal;” and this description fits and is applicable to BOTH the Father and the one who became the Son.

We know that the word YHVH refers to the one who gave up his God-hood to become the Son, Jesus Christ; because YHVH SPOKE to Moses! and it is written:

John 5:37 And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

If YHVH is specifically and only God the Father and no one has ever heard the Father’s voice; how is it that YHVH SPOKE to Moses?

Note:  The Luke 3:22 and Matthew 17:5 voices were angels speaking by the Holy Spirit on behalf of the Father or Jesus lied, and Jesus did not lie!

Luke 3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

Matthew 17:5 While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Yet we know that YHVH can also refer to God the Father because David wrote:

Psalm 110:1 The LORD [YHVH]  said unto my Lord [Adonai the Son], Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Here David declares that God the Father [YHVH] said to the Son . . .  Does this mean that the name YHVH is exclusive to God the Father?  or does it simply mean that the name YHVH was used of the Father and a different term for the Son for the sake of clarity in that passage?

David was inspired of the Holy Spirit to write this and it is not right to assume that David fully understood what he wrote. Why, because Israel understood YHVH to refer to one Being, not yet understanding that there were two persons in that family of creative beings.

Israel- when they were faithful – worshiped YHVH as God, without knowing that the God YHVH was composed of two beings.

Jesus told the Samaritan woman:

John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

Yes, Israel did know and worship the God YHVH, thinking that YHVH was one Being – when they were faithful – but they did not know or understand that the God YHVH consisted of two eternally self existing Creator Beings.

In the scriptures there are times when the word YHVH obviously refers to God the Father, and there are times when the name YHVH can only refer to the Being who became the Son.

Israel did not understand this and considered the name YHVH to refer to only one Being which is why they stumbled at the Son, considering him the physical son of David and not understanding the prophets concerning the Son.

In Isaiah 48:17 YHVH is called our Redeemer, and the ONLY Redeemer is the one who would give up his God-hood to become flesh and be sacrificed as the Lamb of God for the sins of the people.

Isaiah 48:17 Thus saith the LORD [YHVH], thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD [YHVH] thy God [Elohim]  which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.

No man has seen God [Jesus obviously speaking of God the Father since he himself was saying this] or heard His voice at any time.

The term Elohim meant at least two creating Mighty Ones; and the word YHVH means a collective God Family of ever-living individuals.

The name YHVH means simply “I AM” or I Am the self existing God who lives forever;” and this description fits and is applicable to BOTH the Father and the one who became the Son.

Again we know that the word YHVH refers to the one who gave up his God-hood to become the Son, Jesus Christ; because YHVH SPOKE to Moses!

Someone said to me that the above means that only those particular people have not seen or heard God the Father.  Such a comment forgets John 1:18

The Father was not seen or known until the Creator the Son came in the flesh and revealed HIM.

John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [revealed] him.

If YHVH is specifically and only God the Father, and no one has seen or ever heard the Father’s voice; how is it that YHVH SPOKE to Moses?   How is it that Adam and Eve saw their Creator and he spoke with them, and Moses with the elders of Israel saw YHVH in his glory and YHWH spoke with Moses (Ex 33)?

The Being who spoke with all Israel at Sinai and was seen by Moses and the elders, was YHVH; and he was the Being who became the Son; He was NOT the Father!

The Father was not seen and did not speak to any person at any time

Then who was the God who walked with Adam and Eve?  Who ate with Abraham before going on toward Sodom?   Who was the God that  spoke with Moses face to face? and identified himself as YHVH?   (Ex. 33:11)  Who did Moses see in glorified form, even being imbued with a small measure of that radiance himself thereafter? (Ex. 34:29)  Who did Moses, Aaron and the seventy elders see and eat before on the mountain? (Ex. 24:9-11)

The word honor or worship means to obey; and we are to worship or obey Christ as our Head, because he is our espoused Husband and Creator; and he is utterly faithful to his Father who may become our Father in Christ. We are also expressly commanded to obey the Father, both by the law and directly by Jesus Christ.

How can we obey BOTH the Father and the Son?  Because they are ONE in total agreement!

1 Corinthians 11   Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. 11:2 Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances [of God], as I delivered them to you. 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God [The Father].

In keeping with Isaiah 9:6, the ‘Alpha and Omega’;  (Rev 1:6, 1:11, 22:3; and in Rev 21:6) says  And he [Jesus Christ] said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end [ie the ever-living one YHVH]. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. Even Jesus refers directly to Himself as God!

Here Jesus plainly says that he is God [the YHVH family of Elohim] and was from the beginning!  and will exist until the end!  Not that there will be an end, but meaning that he will always exist!

The Alpha and Omega is the one who was alive but died and was made alive again!  (Rev. 1:8, 11 & 18)  The same will become the God of all overcomers, [the Head of the faithful under God the Father] with God the Father for all eternity!

For further proof that Jesus the Savior is YHVH, see Isaiah 49:7 and  Isaiah 60:16, where He — YHVH — is  the Redeemer and Savior and also  “the Mighty One of Jacob”  Isaiah 48:17,

All of these scriptures show that  YHVH is the first and last. Jesus Christ is  clearly included in the word YHVH of the Old Testament!

Thomas also left no doubt, in proclaiming the glorified Jesus as his Lord and God. (John 20:28)  (If he’d been incorrect, wouldn’t Jesus have corrected him?

John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My LORD [YHVH] and my God [Elohim].

The account in John was written six decades after the event.  If Thomas had overstated or misstated, wouldn’t Jesus have corrected him, wouldn’t John have clarified or qualified the statement during those decades?

Both before His birth and after His death, Jesus is referred to as God.

Isaiah 9:6 makes a definitive identification, by affirming that one of the names and roles of God’s Son, Jesus Christ in his spirit form is a Mighty God!

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.

“YHVH” is the Hebrew word that is  translated as “LORD” [all caps]. Found more often in the Old Testament than any other name for God (approximately 7,000 times), the title is also referred to as the “Tetragrammaton,” meaning the “The Four Letters”.

YHVH comes from the Hebrew verb “to be” and is the special name that God revealed to Moses at the burning bush. And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM; and He said, thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you… this is My eternal name, and this is how I am to be called for all generations’ (Exodus 3:14-15).

The LORD who revealed Himself as YHVH in the Old Testament is revealed as Yeshua (Jesus, Joshua, Savior) in the New Testament.

Jesus identified himself with his own mouth as the “I AM”;  the writers of scripture identified the one who became  flesh as the Creator, the “I AM”,  the God of humanity; along with the Father in heaven!

Let us consider the greatness of the sacrifice that was made for our salvation; the death of the very Creator of man and of all things.

In John 8:56-59, Jesus presents himself as the “I AM.” When challenged by some Jewish leaders regarding His claim of seeing Abraham (who lived some 2000 years earlier), Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM.”

Those Jewish leaders understood that Jesus was claiming to be YHVH. This is clearly established when they tried to stone Him to death for what they considered blasphemy.

Paul quotes Joel 2:32 “Whoever will call upon the name of the LORD (YHVH) will be saved. in Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord [the NT Greek not using the word YHVH but still a direct quote from Joel] shall be saved.

Calling Yeshua (Jesus) Lord [in the Greek] is the same as calling Him YHVH, and declaring that Yeshua (Jesus) is YHVH [in the Hebrew].

YHVH refers to the Creator who gave up his divinity to become man and was sacrificed for his creation as well as to God the Father.

Even the word Ekklesia means ONE  body, yet composed of many members  (I Cor. 12:12). A husband and wife are  ONE FLESH, yet two persons.

Jesus Christ himself claimed that he was the “I AM”, Luke 22:70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am22:71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth. Clearly the people understood what he meant when he said I AM.

HEAR the words of Jesus Christ himself:

John 8:56 your, father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. His audience understood correctly from this statement that Jesus was declaring that he had known and been known by Abraham. 8:57  Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

They inquired of him how he could make such a claim when he was not yet fifty years old. 8:58  Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM. Jesus openly declared himself to be God; using the very name of the God of the ancients “I AM”

God told Moses  Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

John 8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: [because he called himself by the name of God] but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

This is a very important issue.  The position that the word YHVH refers exclusively to God the Father, makes Christ a liar and denies the divinity of Christ; and therefore denies the efficacy of His sacrifice; Leaving us without an atonement or means of reconciliation with God the Father.  Further this error prevents an understanding of a very large part of the scriptures.

Either Jesus Christ pre-existed as the “I Am”   [YHWH], or he sinned and lied, making His sacrifice of no effect!

The term Elohim means Mighty Ones and refers to all that is called god, and even includes human authorities like rulers and judges.

YHVH is the name of a collective Family of Eternal Beings, a family at present made up of two members, and soon to be expanded with vast numbers of changed to spirit children also in complete unity with the present Two;  who will receive the gift of eternal life!

John 18:4 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. 15:5 And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.  18:6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. 18:7  Then asked he them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth. 18:8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am he: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:

The collective family name YHVH, refers to BOTH the One who became the Father and the One who became the Son, yet Israel knew them only by the name YHVH not understanding that that name was collective and meant more than one Being until the Son came to reveal the Father and provide access to him!

This is NOT understood by those who believe that YHWH refers to only one Being.

Some Old Testament scriptures do speak of the Father, but this was NOT understood in Judaism, which to this day rejects the understanding that God is one family made up of more than one person.

One of Christ’s teachings was to reveal the existence of God the Father and that the name YHVH was collective including more than one person.

Clearly the meaning of YHVH as “The Eternal Self Existing God” is applicable to BOTH the Father and the Son;  YHVH just like Elohim is a uni-plural word that can be applied to many individuals in a family of beings.

The Creator YHVH was made flesh and revealed the existence of the Father YHVH the also eternally existing Father, by expounding on the spirit of the law and the prophets.

By revealing himself as the SON, he also revealed God the Father.

Some Old Testament scriptures do speak of the Father as YHVH, but this was NOT understood in Judaism, which to this day rejects the understanding that God-YHVH is one family made up of more than one person.

Modern Rabbinic Judaism has rejected Christ based on their Unitarian take on the nature of God as only one person. that is the point which they have stumbled over.

Isaiah reveals that the coming Messiah the Christ who was made flesh as the Lamb of God to die for the sins of the world and was then resurrected to be with the Father for a time before returning to the earth is YHVH!

Isaiah 2:19 And they shall go into the holes of the rocks, and into the caves of the earth, for fear of the LORD ]YHVH] , and for the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake terribly the earth.

The Shema

Can we all agree that Rabbinic Judaism rejects the pre-existence and the Creatorship of Jesus Christ, and that they reject that Jesus was the Husband of Israel, the YHVH of scripture?

The Rabbins themselves openly teach that, while completely rejecting the New Testament as well; and how is that described in the scriptures?

Isaiah 8:14 And he [Messiah the Christ] shall be for a sanctuary [for the godly]; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

The word Elohim means Mighty Ones and is a generic term for God, or gods; for any authority.

Deuteronomy 6:4-5 is known as the Shema and actually uses both YHVH and Elohim to indicate one collective God [as in  “FAMILY”].

The Shem’a is a proof text for the Unitarians, who fixate on the name YHVH in the statement in English  “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD”: and ignore the implications of the uni-plural word Elohim.

Strong’s numbers:  Hear [H8085] (8798), O Israel [H3478]: The LORD [H3068 YHVH  “I AM”] our God [H430 God here being Elohim a uni-plural word like family] [is] one [H259] LORD [H3068 YHVH “I AM”]:

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD [YHVH] our God [our Elohim (mighty ones)] is one LORD [YHVH]:

Clearly meaning that the “I AM” is the Family Name of the God [Elohim, Mighty Ones] family

The term “I AM” [YHVH] designates one as a member of the God [Elohim] family of eternal Mighty Ones!

BOTH the Father and the Son are a part of the “I AM” [YHVH] Family; they are BOTH GOD!  BOTH are ELOHIM!  BOTH are Self Existent Mighty Ones!

The word YHVH [The Eternal] refers to both God the Father and the Son, for BOTH are Eternal.

The “I AM” Family is ONE Family of [Elohim] Mighty Ones!

Some, confused by their preconceived notion stumble at the words of Stephen, Paul and Peter in Acts.

If we accept the scriptures that YHVH refers to BOTH the Father and to the one who became the Son, and we reject the non scriptural notion that the name YHVH refers to either the Father or the Son exclusively, Acts is absolutely no problem.

YHVH the Son gave up his God-hood, his YHVH-ship,  to become flesh, while God the Father remained YHVH during the physical lifetime of Jesus, and then after Jesus was crucified, he was resurrected by YHVH the Father and raised back up to his previous YHVH ship as he had prayed:

John 17:5  And now, O Father, glorify thou me [together with you Father] with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Christ plainly says that he was WITH God the Father and had a glory WITH God the Father; BEFORE the very world began! The Father and the Son are totally united as ONE; One collective YHVH!

There is absolutely no problem with the following statements which are absolutely consistent with YHVH referring to BOTH the Father and the Son [when in his glory].

The ancients knew YHVH; they did not know that YHVH was composed of two Beings!

YHVH, who was collectively the God of the fathers; and the member of YHVH called the Father, raised Jesus back to his pre-flesh YHVH status.

Acts 3:13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he [Pilate] was determined to let him go.

Jesus who had given up his God-hood and YHVH-ship to be made flesh, was raised up back to his previous glory by God the Father.  This has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus not being YHVH together with the Father BEFORE he gave up his YHVH-ship and was made flesh.

Jesus GAVE UP his glorious YHVH state to become flesh – and was later raised back to his glorious YHVH state – by the other member of the collective YHVH, God the Father;  what is so difficult about that?

Yes, it was the God of our Fathers – YHVH being the God of the fathers – and a member of YHVH called the Father, raised up Jesus: but BOTH the Father and the Son [in his glorified state] were part of the collective YHVH, composing the “God of our Fathers” something which Israel did not understand.

BOTH the one who became the Father and the one who became the Son were members of the collective YHVH family of Mighty Ones [Elohim].  One divested himself of his glory and was made flesh, but the Father had remained in his YHVH glory; and raised up the Son back to the YHVH glory, which he had had before being made flesh.

How many are a part of the collective bride of Christ?  Millions?  Why is it so impossible to grasp that there are two beings in the collective  YHVH family of Mighty Ones?

The ancients knew YHVH; they did NOT know that YHVH was composed of two Beings!

The, until then, unknown member of the YHVH Family – the Father – who was a part of the collective God of the fathers;  raised Jesus back to his pre-flesh YHVH status.

Acts 5:30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 5:31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.

These two scriptures in no way imply that Jesus was not a member of YHVH before his human birth; because he had given up his YHVH-ship to be made flesh and was later raised BACK to that glory by the Father.  The same explanation holds for Acts seven and Stephen.

BOTH the one who became the Father and the one who became the Son were members of the YHVH family of Mighty Ones [Elohim].

Just as the chairman of a company resigns; One YHVH Being, divested himself of his glory and was made flesh, but the Father had remained in his YHVH glory; and raised up the Son back to the YHVH glory [just like the former company chairman could be reinstated ] which he had had before being made flesh.

The term YHVH refers to BOTH God the Father and to the One who became the Son, and its meanings are applicable to both.

The son, Yeshua [Emanuel, Joshua, Jesus ] WAS the Creator “YHVH” and gave up his God-hood to be made flesh to die and to then be resurrected by the Father who was also called YHVH.

YHVH can refer to either the Father or to the Son, just like Elohim; although in the vast majority of cases in the Old Testament;  Elohim and YHVH refers to the Son.

The truth is that YHVH [the Eternal Creator God] is the name of the Creator Family of Elohim [Mighty Ones] and refers to BOTH the Father and the Son as eternally existing Beings; a point which I shall prove in this article

Jesus said “My Father and I are ONE” is it any wonder that the same descriptive names could apply to both of them?

How many people do you know of today, who bear their father’s name? especially their surname?

Elohim is a family name and can refer to any member of the God family; Father and Son.

Yet, we also know that YHVH can at times refer to God the Father because David wrote:

Psalm 110:1 The LORD [YHVH]  said unto my Lord [Adonai Master speaking of the Son], Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Here David declares that God the Father [YHVH] said to the Son . . .  Does this mean that the name YHVH is exclusive to God the Father?  or does it simply mean that the name YHVH was used to refer to the Father and a different term was used for the Son for the sake of clarity?

David was inspired by the Holy Spirit to write this, and it is not right to assume that David fully understood what he wrote.  Why? because Israel understood YHVH to refer to one Being, not yet understanding that there were two persons in that family of Creative Beings.

Israel – when they were faithful – worshiped YHVH; but did not understand that YHVH was composed of two persons!

Yes, the Father is subtly revealed in the Old Testament scriptures, but it takes the New Testament teachings and spiritual understanding from the Holy Spirit to bring out that Jesus Christ was also YHVH and Elohim along with the Father; and gave up his God-hood for the sake of his creation and became a man of flesh.

It takes the New Testament scriptures and the Holy Spirit to understand that there are two individual beings called by the same family names [Elohim and YHVH].

Those who deny that Jesus Christ pre-existed his human birth, or that Christ was YHVH, I ask: Was Christ without sin, always speaking the truth?  Or do you call him a liar, by denying his words when he said that he was the I Am and knew Abraham?

To deny his words is to deny the perfection of Christ and the perfect atoning sacrifice of the Creator for his creation.  This is a great blasphemy and cuts one off from his sacrifice; for it denies the efficacy of that sacrifice, by calling Jesus Christ a sinner.

The Creator

The scriptures are clear that God the Father created ALL things BY Jesus Christ, therefore God the Father was the Executive Creator and the one who became Jesus Christ was the very Implementing Creator who later gave up his God-hood to become flesh.

Ephesians 1:9   And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid [the fact that God [YHVH] was two persons was hidden in the word “God” [YHVH] until Jesus revealed the existence of the Father and the Son.  Israel knew God [YHVH] but they did not know that YHVH consisted of TWO persons]  in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

Jesus manifested [revealed] God the Father; the people previously worshiping YHVH but not understanding that YHVH was a collective family name of more than one person, the Father and the Son.

17:6 I have manifested [revealed] thy name [revealed the Father]  unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. 17:7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee. 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

One thing among many things that Jesus did, was to manifest or make known God the Father and reveal that YHVH was two persons to the spiritually faithful!  A point which the Jews could not accept and stumbled at.

Christ declares plainly that all that he taught and did was from God the Father; and that he did nothing of his own self. There is absolutely NO difference between Christ and God the Father in their teachings, commandments, actions and in their very natures!  They are united, they are ONE together; they are one YHVH. That is the meaning of the Shem’a.

Jesus specifically stated that he had come down from Heaven

John 6:38  For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Again it is written that Christ had come down from heaven and is now back in heaven

John 3:13  And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

There is no doubt that the one who gave up his God-hood to become Jesus Christ was the very implementing Creator, under God the Father as the ultimate  Executive Authority.  The Being who became Jesus Christ was NOT some angel nor did he come into existence at his human conception;  He was the very Implementing Creator of humanity!

Confusion of Persons.

During the Old Testament period the people knew of only one being in the God family, even though there were subtle hints of another. It was when Christ came and revealed spiritual things and the truth that there were two beings in the God family, that we graduate from the spiritual ignorance of Unitarianism, into the New Covenant understanding of the nature and identification of YHVH as referring to BOTH God the Father and to Messiah the Son, and the enormity of his sacrifice in discarding his God-hood to die for his creation.

Was the Being who later became the Son;  God, YHVH, Elohim?

Yes, he was an Elohim, and he was a YHVH,  the very Creator God and LORD of hosts the spiritual Husband of Israel; before he gave that up to be made flesh.

Was the man Jesus Christ, YHVH – God?

No, he had given up his God-hood to become a man, to become flesh and to die for his creation.  If a man resigns as chairman of a company, he is no longer chairman; but if he is later reinstated he becomes a chairman again; its just that simple!

Is He now a YHVH – God again?

Yes; he has been changed back to spirit and is exalted above all authorities and powers except God the Father.

Israel – when they were faithful – worshiped YHVH as God, without knowing that the God YHVH was composed of two Beings.

Jesus told the Samaritan woman:

John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

Yes, Israel did know and worship YHVH – God when they were faithful – but they did not know or understand that the God YHVH consisted of two eternally self existing Creator Beings.

In the scriptures there are times when the word YHVH obviously refers to God the Father, and there are times when the name YHVH can only refer to the Being who became the Son.

Israel did not understand this and considered the name YHVH to refer to only one Being which is why they stumbled at the Son, considering him the physical son of David.

The understanding that the God YHVH consisted of two separate Beings was unknown in Israel and it was the Son who revealed that truth, revealing the existence of two separate God Beings called YHVH;  a separate God the Father and another YHVH  God Being who became the Son.

The New Covenant

In the Mosaic Covenant Israel was married to God, as an example that the New Covenant faithful will also become married to God;  and a wife is commanded by God to obey her husband [in the LORD, always putting God first].

Who is the Husband of the New Covenant?  To whom is the bride espoused to?  Remember the Marriage of the Lamb?

The Mosaic Covenant was a marriage agreement between the Creator God who became Jesus and the descendants of Jacob (Jeremiah 3:14, Isaiah 54:5).

The Mosaic Covenant was a marriage covenant:

This Mosaic Covenant between Israel and God was a Marriage Covenant, in which God as the Husband promised to protect, provide for and bless Israel his bride; as long as the bride was faithful to live by every Word of Her Husband.

Speaking to Judah God said:  Jeremiah 3:14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

Later speaking of the Mosaic Covenant of marriage which Israel did not keep, God told the prophet:

Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:

Isaiah 54:5: For thy Maker [The Creator] is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

Like all marriages, this Marriage Covenant would remain only until the death of one of the parties (Rom 7:2-3).

The Being who became Jesus Christ was the God Family personage who married Israel (1 Corinthians 10:4) and we know that it was YHVH who spoke to Moses and married Israel at Sinai!

Therefore the YHVH who married Mosaic Israel was none other than the one who became Jesus Christ!

1 Corinthians 10:1   Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all  passed through the [Red] sea; 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

Deuteronomy 32:1   Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.  32:2 My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: 32:3 Because I will publish the name of the Lord: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. 32:4 He is the Rock [who Paul tells us is Christ], his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.

Long before Jesus was born He was considered the Rock.

Isaiah 28:16: Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation.

Peter applies this prophecy to Christ.

1 Peter 2:6: “Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief Cornerstone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on Him shall not be confounded”

David said:

Psalm 61:2  Lead me to the Rock that is higher [greater] than I

Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation. 62:2 He only is my rock and my salvation [and Paul declares this Rock as Christ]; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.

Paul declares that Jesus Christ was the ROCK which led Israel out of Egypt; and Christ is the Rock which leads the “called out” out of sin!.  The law given to Moses was given by the YHVH; Jesus Christ before he was made flesh!

All things were created by Jesus Christ (Eph 3:9). He was later made flesh and dwelt among men (Joh 1:14), giving up the glory that He had with God before the world began (Joh 17:5).

THEN HE DIED, thus ending the marriage covenant with Israel.

Today the Mosaic Covenant has been annulled by the death of one of the parties. It no longer exists. Neither Israel nor Judah are in a Mosaic Covenant of marriage with God any longer; because the Mosaic Marriage Covenant ended with the death of the Husband!

The Husband of Israel died!  Did God the Father die?  or was it the Son who died?

Therefore the one who became the Son, was the Husband YHVH of Israel!

The very Being who made a covenant of marriage with physical Israel, is the SAME being who will make a New Covenant with Spiritual Israel!

Notice that the very Being who was speaking to Jeremiah was the Husband of Mosaic Israel and that that same Being would be the Maker of the New Covenant!

Jeremiah 31:32  Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:

Now what is the New Covenant?  It is the putting of the whole Mosaic Covenant law in the hearts of men and empowering them to keep it.   That includes the Festivals and Clean and Unclean, Brethren.

We should and will keep these things because we want to; but regardless of what WE want, they are absolutely binding.

31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

The LORD of Hosts

The LORD of hosts made a Covenant with Israel that we call the Mosaic Covenant.

The LORD [YHVH] became the Husband of physical Israel and the tribes of Israel became the hosts of the LORD.

We know that the YHVH who spoke to Moses and became the Husband of Israel, was the very one who became Jesus Christ, because it is the same Being in the person of the resurrected Jesus Christ who establishes the New Covenant; therefore the LORD [YHVH] of Hosts [the LORD YHVH of the congregation] is the very Being who physically was called Jesus Christ!

Here is the existing UCG Doctrinal Statement revealing the Husband of Israel:

Before Israel entered into the marriage covenant, YHWH spoke the Ten Commandments directly to the children of Israel. “And the LORD said to Moses, ‘Behold, I come to you in the thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever…” (Exodus 19:9). Moses then went down and warned the people not to come near or touch the mountain. YHWH then spoke the Ten Commandments directly to the people (Exodus 20:2-17). The people were so frightened that they fled from the mountain and asked Moses to speak to them instead of YHWH (Exodus 20:18-21). “Then the LORD said to Moses, ‘Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: “You have seen that I have talked with you from heaven”’” (Exodus 20:22). Then YHWH gave the statues and judgments to Moses (Exodus 20:23-24:3). Moses wrote them down and got up early the next morning and built an “altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars” and prepared sacrifices. Then the people came before the altar and the blood of the sacrifices was sprinkled on them. Moses read the words of the covenant, the people agreed to the terms, and the covenant/marriage was consummated (Exodus 24:4-8).

Now note carefully what happened after the marriage covenant was consummated. “Then Moses went up, also Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and they saw the God of Israel. And there was under His feet as it were a paved work of sapphire stone, and it was like the very heavens in its clarity. But on the nobles of the children of Israel He did not lay His hand. So they saw God, and they ate and drank” (Exodus 24:9-11). Note carefully the words “they saw God.” Yet Jesus Christ stated that no man had heard the voice of the Father or seen His shape (John 1:18; 5:37). Moreover, Christ stated that no one can know the Father unless the Son reveals Him (Luke 10:22). Thus we can safely conclude that the one who entered into the marriage covenant with Israel was the one who became Jesus Christ.

This is their existing official teaching and now they claim that they are NOT changing anything!

Was Jesus an Angel?

Some have said that the LORD [YHVH] speaking in Exodus 33 was God the Father and was declaring that the one who became Jesus was an angel.

Exodus 33:1 And the LORD said unto Moses, Depart, and go up hence, thou and the people which thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it: 33:2 And I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite: 33:3 Unto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee; for thou art a stiffnecked people: lest I consume thee in the way.

To think that this means that an angel became Jesus is an error resulting from taking a scripture out of context to try and support that assumption.

For only a few lines further Moses reasons that God should go with them and that Christ should be with them, and not an angel as God had said.  Moses wants to know why God has abandoned him and Israel by turning away from the people and sending an angel only.

In no way does this mean that the Father was speaking and that Jesus was merely the Father’s angel sent to lead Israel.

The speaker was the Covenant Husband YHVH who became Jesus Christ and YHVH changed his mind and decided; NOT to send an angel; but to go with Israel himself.  It was NOT an angel which went with Israel, but her spiritual Husband YHVH who became Jesus Christ.

33:12 And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send [the angel and not God to go with him] with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.

Moses asks God to be with him and the people to teach, guide and lead them.

33:13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

God then promises to remain with Moses and the people.

33:14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Moses replies asking God to let them remain at Sinai and not command them to enter the land if God will not go with them.

This is a type that spiritual Israel may not enter the spiritual Promised Land of eternal life, if they are not zealously faithful to God.  God will be with us and bring us into the eternal Promised Land, ONLY if we are with him and quick to obey and follow him in all things.

33:15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence [If God will not be with them then they would stay at Sinai and not go without God into the land of promise]

Moses speaks that it is the presence of God that sets Israel apart from all others.

It is the same in spiritual Israel; for if we do not diligently follow our God and his whole Word, HOW are we different from any other people?

33:16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth.

Then YHVH accepted to remain with the people for Moses sake.

33:17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name.

Genesis 1:26  “And God (Elohim, plural) said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:..” [From the very beginning, Creation is represented as a collaborative effort of two Beings, here speaking as one.]  Genesis 3:22 reflects the same plurality of Beings,  “And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:..”

In Revelation 22:12 Jesus Christ says that he is the first and the last

Revelation 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. 22:13 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.

Now turn to Isaiah 48:11-12 “For  my own sake, I do it, for how should  my name be profaned? ‘My glory I will  not give to another. Hearken to me, O  Jacob, and Israel, whom I called!  I am  He, I am the first, and I am the last.’  Verses 17-18 show YHVH who is the first and the last. And also in Isaiah 41:4,  “Who has performed and done this,  calling the generations from the beginningI, the LORD [YHVH], the first, and with  the last; I am He.”

Christ is  clearly the YHVH of the Old Testament!

Thomas also left no doubt, in exclaiming Jesus as his Lord and God. (John 20:28)  (If he’d been incorrect, wouldn’t Jesus have corrected him?  The account in John was written six decades after the event.  If Thomas had overstated or misstated, wouldn’t John have clarified or qualified the statement during those decades?)  Both before His birth and after His death, Jesus is referred to as God.

Isaiah 9:6 makes a definitive identification, by affirming that one of the names and roles of God’s Son, Jesus Christ, is the Everlasting Father!  “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counseller, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”

No man has seen God [Jesus obviously speaking of God the Father since he himself was saying this] or heard His voice at any time.  “And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.” (John 5:37)

At any time?  Then who was the God who walked with Adam and Eve?  Who ate with Abraham before going on toward Sodom?  Who did Jacob wrestle with all night? (Gen. 32:24-30)  Who was the God that  spoke with Moses face to face? and identified himself as YHVH?   (Ex. 33:11)  Who did Moses see in glorified form, even being imbued with a small measure of that radiance himself thereafter? (Ex. 34:29)  Who did Moses, Aaron and the seventy elders see and eat before on the mountain? (Ex. 24:9-11)

Not only must we accept that no man can ‘come to’ the Father but through His Son, but we are to have the SAME regard for BOTH the Father and the Son!

John 5:22-25  “Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.” (1st John. 2:23)  “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father.  He that honours not the Son honours not the Father which hath sent him.

1 Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ11:2Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances [of God], as I delivered them to you. 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God [The Father].

In keeping with Isaiah 9:6, the ‘Alpha and Omega’  (Rev 1:6, 1:11, 22:3; and in Rev 21:6), says  “And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.Even Jesus refers directly to Himself as God!

Here Jesus plainly says that he was from the beginning!  and will exist until the end!

The word Elohim means Mighty Ones and is a generic term for God, or gods; for any authority.

The word YHVH [The Eternal] refers to both God the Father and the Son, for BOTH are Eternal, yet it most explicitly refers to the Creator who was the God of his creation throughout the period from creation, until  he gave up his divinity to be made flesh; and then had his glory returned to him in a resurrection back to spirit by the Father.

Jesus identified himself with his own mouth as the “I AM”; the prophets identified Messiah as “God with us”, and the writers of scripture identified the one who became  flesh as the Creator, the “I AM”,  the God of humanity; along with the Father in heaven!

Let us consider the greatness of the sacrifice that was made for our salvation; the death of the very Creator of man and of all things.

This said clearly in English is:  the Eternal our Mighty Ones is One [in unity]  We shall see when we go over the last words of Christ in John that Jesus plainly says that he and the Father are .ONE.  The Shema does not refer to one being; but a fully united family of beings.

The term Elohim means Mighty Ones and refers to all that is called god, and even includes human authorities like rulers and judges.

The Shema differentiates the family of YHVH [the Eternal] from all other Elohim [authorities, lords and masters].  YHVH is the name of a Family of Eternal Beings, a family now made up of two members, and soon to be expanded with vast numbers of more spiritual beings in complete unity with the present Two;  who will receive the gift of eternal life!

Even the word  church [Ekklesia] means ONE  body, yet composed of many members  (I Cor. 12:12). A husband and wife are  ONE FLESH, yet two persons.

Deuteronomy. 6:4-5 known to Jews as the Shma uses BOTH Jehovah [YeHovah] and Elohim to indicate one God [AS IN “FAMILY”] with a plurality of persons.

The Shma is a proof text for the Unitarians, who fixate on the statement in English  “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD”: and ignore the implications of the uniplural word Elohim.

Hear [H8085] (8798), O Israel [H3478]: The LORD [H3068 YeHovah  “I AM”] our God [H430 Elohim Mighty Ones plural] [is] one [H259] LORD [H3068 YeHovah “I AM”]:

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Deuteronomy 6:4  Hear, O Israel: The “I AM” our God [Elohim, plural Mighty Ones], is one “I AM”:  Clearly meaning that the “I AM” is the Family Name of the God [Elohim] family itself

The term “I AM” designates one as a member of the God Family.

BOTH the Father and the Son are a part of the “I AM”[YHVH] Family; they are BOTH GOD!  BOTH are ELOHIM!  BOTH are Self Existent Mighty Ones!  The “I AM” Family is ONE Family of [Elohim] Mighty Ones or God!

Yet the Father remained unknown until the Son came to reveal him and provide access to him! This is NOT understood by those [Jews, Unitarians, etc] who reject Christ as Creator.

Jesus Christ himself claimed that he was the “I AM”, Luke 22:70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said unto them, Ye say that I am. 23:71 And they said, What need we any further witness? for we ourselves have heard of his own mouth. Clearly the people understood what he meant when he said I AM.

HEAR the words of Jesus Christ himself, John 8:56your, father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.”

His audience understood correctly from this statement that Jesus was declaring that he had known and been known by Abraham.

8:57 “Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?” They inquired of him how he could make such a claim when he was not yet fifty years old. 8:58 ”Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM.” Jesus then openly declared himself to be God; using the very name of the God of the ancients “I AM” [ Ex 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.] 8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: [because he called himself by the name of God] but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

This is a very important issue.  The Unitarian position denies the divinity of Christ and therefore denies the efficacy of His sacrifice;   Leaving us without an atonement for sin or reconciliation with God the Father.  Further this error prevents an understanding of a very large part of the scriptures.

Either Jesus Christ pre-existed as the “I Am”   [YHWH], or he sinned and lied making His sacrifice of no effect!

John 18:5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them.

Jesus specifically stated that he had come down from Heaven, John 6:38  For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

Again it is written that Christ had come down from heaven and is now back in heaven John 3: 13  And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.

Jesus prayed that his Father would glorify him with the same glory that he had together with the Father; clearly stating that he had had such glory BEFORE THE WORLD BEGAN!  John 17:5  And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Paul tells us that the one who led Israel out of Egypt was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

We are told in Ephesians 1:9 that God created ALL things by Jesus Christ  “And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:”

Paul goes on to say in Colossians 1:13 “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.”

Paul tells us that Christ created all the worlds and that Christ is the express image of the Father. Hebrews 1:2 “Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

John who personally knew and was taught by Christ and wrote of him; John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God. 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.”

John goes on to say John 1:10He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.” When was the Father ever in the world? The Father was not known, Christ came to reveal [make manifest] the Father, (John 17:6).

The wonder of the Unitarian philosophy is not the evidence against the pre-existence of Christ; it is how anyone could deny the pre-existence of Christ as the very Creator and Husband of Israel, in the presence of such overwhelming evidence!

We are told in Ephesians 1:9 that God created ALL things by Jesus Christ “ And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:”

Paul tells us that Moses esteemed Christ more than the riches of Egypt.

Hebrews 11:26Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward”. Pointing out that the ROCK that went with Israel out of Egypt was Jesus Christ.

1 Corinthians 10:1 “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.”

Clearly then Paul understood that Jesus Christ was the God; known to the ancients,  long before his human birth..

What did Jesus himself say about this topic?  He prayed to the Father; stating that he had been glorified with the Father before the world began.

John 17:5And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.”.

YES, There is absolutely NO doubt that Jesus Christ [Yeshua Messiah]  is the God known to the ancients: The God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Abel, Moses and Elijah:  We have his very own word for that!

You, who deny that Jesus Christ pre-existed his human birth: Was Christ without sin, always speaking the truth?  Or do you call him a liar, by denying his words?   To deny his words is to deny the perfection of Christ and the perfect atoning sacrifice of the Creator for his creation.  This is a great blasphemy and cuts one off from his sacrifice; for it denies the efficacy of that sacrifice, by calling Jesus Christ a sinner.

The first prophecy of Messiah was given to Adam and Eve by Christ, after they had rebelled against their Creator.   The bruising of the head speaking of damage to a vital part, while the bruising of a heel speaking of a minor damage that would be recovered from.

Speaking of Satan, Jesus tells Satan:

Genesis 3:15   And I will put enmity between thee [Satan] and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed [Messiah]; it shall bruise thy head [break the head and destroy Satan], and thou shalt bruise his heel [Satan shall manage to crucify Christ; who will then be resurrected by God the Father].

Deuteronomy 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Now this Moses was the mediator of the Mosaic Covenant, and here Moses speaks of another prophet to come like himself.  Clearly meaning that another Mediator of another Covenant would come to them.

This new Mediator would mediate a New Covenant with the people of Israel, and ultimately all nations would be grafted into that New Covenant; grafted into an Israel; who will be totally of like mind with Christ and the Father.

Jeremiah 31:31   Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

The very being who made a covenant of marriage with physical Israel, would be the SAME being to make the New Covenant with Spiritual Israel!

31:32   Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:

31:33  But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. 31:34  And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Peter expounded on the Covenants in:

Acts  3:17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.

3:18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.

3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.

3:20 And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 3:21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.

3:22 For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.

3:23 And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.

3:24 Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.

The Argument that God the Father was the God of the Old Testament

This argument has been pushed hard for several years by Mark Mickelson and a version of Mark’s position is being prepared for acceptance by UCG.  I add that Mark has retired from UCG and is working to spread his teachings in other Assemblies and the Pacific COG has adopted this teaching.

As in any argument these folks have a starting point; which is called a premise.  A premise is an initial assumption on which the logical argument is based.  In this case the entire argument is based on three related but different assumptions.

They take these assumptions and build a logical argument which goes; if this is true then that must also be true: and through  that process they build up an incredible body of  very convincing argument.  In the process, the volume of words and the logic of the argument effectively buries the original assumptions until that original assumption is forgotten and lies unnoticed.

A lesson in logic

  • If the starting premise or basic assumption is correct and the logic is sound, then the conclusion will be correct.
  • If the starting premise or basic assumption is correct and the logic is faulty then the conclusion will be wrong.
  • If the starting premise or basic assumption is false and the logic is sound, then the conclusion will be wrong.

In the case of the position of Mark Mickelson and friends on this subject, their logic is sound and cannot be defeated unless one examines the premise; in this case the three basic assumptions on which their argument is based.

Brethren, the truth or falsehood of clever arguments can be discerned by a careful examination of the original basic assumption. The premise [hypothesis, assumption] on which the argument is based must be tested first before one becomes dazzled by a multitude of words and clever arguments.

The three basic assumptions or presuppositions on which the entire argument of these folks is based.

For a study into the names of God see this article.

The meaning of the term: “God Most High”

The Hebrew for God Most High is El Elyon.  Ēl ʿElyōn is usually rendered in English as “God Most High”, and similarly in the Septuagint as ο θεος ο ύψιστος (“God the highest”).

One of the foundations of Mark Mickelson and the coming UCG Paper is the premise that the term “God Most High” refers to God the Father exclusively and that therefore every place that the word El Elyon is used refers to God the Father.  Remember in discussions always check the premise, the assumption on which the argument is based.

Who do the Holy Scriptures say is “God Most High?”

Psalm 78:35 And they remembered that God was their rock, and the [most] high God [El Elyon] their redeemer.

Strong’s

Psalm  78:35 And they remembered 2142 8799 that God 430 [was] their rock 6697, and the high 5945 [El Elyon, the Most High]  God 410 their redeemer 1350 8802.

Word: OEILR

Pronounce: el-yone’   Strong: H5945

Orig: from 5927; an elevation, i.e. (adj.) lofty (compar.); as title, the Supreme:–(Most, on) high(-er, -est), upper(-most).H5927

The term “Most High God” in the New Testament

In speaking of the name “I Am”  Mark writes:

“So, the question we have to ask is when Christ identified Himself with the phrase “I AM”
was He also communicating that He is the One who spoke to Moses at the burning bush in
Exodus 3? To answer this question we need to consider what else we are told about the God
that spoke to Moses from the burning bush in the Exodus 3 account. In this account the God
Who spoke to Moses also repeatedly identifies Himself as “the God of your fathers” and also as
“the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob”. He then states “This is my
name forever”. If we look at Who these titles are attributed to in the New Testament we see
that they are exclusively attributed to God the Father.”

Here the name “I AM” clearly refers to Jesus Christ, yet Mark wrongly claims that the “I Am” is the Father and not Christ, basing his claim on the fact that the term “Most High” refers exclusively to the Father in the New Testament

However as we saw in the first part of this article; in the Old Testament the term “Most High God” referred to BOTH of the two Beings making up the God Family.

Why does “the Most High”  refer to both beings in the Old Testament and only to the Father in the New Testament, why this difference?

Because the Being who had been God and been with God (John 1) gave up his Godhood and was no longer God but flesh.  A king who abdicates in no longer a king, and a God who resigns from his Godhood to become flesh is no longer a God.

Its just that simple,  once he had given up his godhood and became flesh, Jesus Christ was no longer a part of the “Most High God.”  Therefore in the New Testament when Christ was made flesh and was no longer God; the only remaining “Most High” God Being was the Father.

When the Being who became flesh gave up his Godhood the only remaining “God Most High” was the Father and since there was no longer any other God Being, the title “God Most High” would apply exclusively to the Father during the time that Christ was in the flesh.

As we saw in the first part, this New Testament usage IN NO WAY means that the title “Most High God” referred exclusively to the Father before the birth of Christ!  Before Christ gave up his Godhood he was a member of the “Most High God”.

The premise that the term “God Most High” refers exclusively to God the Father is obviously wrong; it is a false premise!

What is the truth?  The plain truth is that the biblical term “God Most High,” has nothing to do with separating God the Father over the Son; the term is used to exalt God, that is BOTH the Father and the Being who became the Son; above all other gods and things worshiped by men!

We describe objects of exaltation as being “higher” than we are: higher in rank, in title, in beauty, in position, or in intelligence. Even authority is referred to in terms of height, from top-level management down to the common worker. Height conveys the idea of superiority in power, strength, and authority.

The name “God [Elohim El-Yon] Most High” or “LORD [YHVH Elyon] Most High” means that there is no god, idol, or created being that should be worshiped or exalted above Yahweh, the LORD, because they [BOTH Father and the Being who became the Son] are superior in every way.

The name El Elyon refers to the God family, to BOTH the Father and to the Being who became flesh as the Son!

Example:  We might say that Jones built the house, but there are many Jones’, which one built the house?  We cannot know until further information is provided.  We can say that it could have been any Jones.

Even so BOTH God the Father and the One who gave up his Godhood to be made flesh, are “God Most High.”  Therefore the conclusion that the name “God Most High” refers exclusively to the Father in every circumstance where that term is used is false.

The term “God Most High” does NOT refer to a specific individual in the Godhead; either the Father or the Son, but refers to “God” as a single entity consisting of BOTH.

The Acts 3:13 Argument

Acts 3:13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers [i.e. the God of the forefathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob], hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he [Pilate] was determined to let him go.

Peter says that the God of the forefathers raised up the Son.  From this, the assumption is made that the Father who raised up the Son was God the Father, and that he was known to people in the Old Testament as an individual God Being.  Is that assumption true?

God was known by the forefathers as a single God without the knowledge that God was a collective consisting of two Beings.  They worshiped God, but just like the Jews of today; they had no concept that God consisted of Two Beings.

To this day, just like the ancients; Judah considers God to be One Being, not understanding that God consists of two Beings.  That is the stone of stumbling that causes them to reject Christ.

Note:  They have always considered [both today and anciently] that God was a single entity, never understanding that God was an entity consisting of more than one individual.  Therefore they have and do exalt God as one Being, and do not worship God as consisting of two beings!

Notice carefully,  Peter said that God, and the Father was the ONLY God existing when Christ was dead; raised up Christ.

Peter stated that God [the collective Godhead] was known by “Abraham, Isaac and Jacob” who were their forefathers.  Yes, the “Most High God” was known to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the godly forefathers; who worshiped God without knowing that God consisted of two Beings [while both beings were alive].

To say that the ancients understood that God consisted of two Beings or knowingly worshiped the Father as separate from the Son is an error.  They worshiped God as a whole, not yet understanding that God consisted of two Beings!

Yes, there are prophecies alluding to a Father / Son, but the people did not understand the nature of God as including two Beings until Jesus Christ came in the flesh and revealed the existence of the Father as a separate Being from the Son; and even then Judah rejected the concept that the Most High God consisted of two distinct Beings.

The entire heresy that God the Father was known to the ancients as a distinct God Being is built on the foundation of these three false premises;

1. An assumption about the application of the term “God Most High” in the Old Testament.

2. An assumption about the application of the term “God Most High” in the New Testament.

3. Acts 3:13 and the assumption that Judah knew that God was an Entity consisting of two separate Beings.

The answer to arguments like this is that: Yes, Israel worshiped God; but NO they did not realize that God consisted of more than one Being.  They worshiped the whole family of God as God, without any differentiation of individual God Beings within the Godhead; not knowing that “God” consisted of several Beings.

Jesus Christ revealed the existence of more than one God Being within the Godhead, thereby revealing the existence of the Being who became the Father as a separate unique individual God Being within a larger Godhead.

Ask ANY Rabbi today about the nature of God and he will tell you that Judaism teaches that there is One God composed of One Being.

The ancients did NOT understand anything about a separate God the Father and God the Son,they simply worshiped the entire Godhead; and modern Jews do not accept that God is an entity consisting of two separate Beings either.

Since the ancients worshiped God as a single entity, not knowing that God is a family with both Father and Son; the question is: Which of those two Beings interacted with humanity, Abraham and later Israel?

The answer is that the High Priest comes between the people and God the Father; and the spirit High Priest who interacted with human beings was the God Being [Melchizedek] who became flesh as Jesus Christ and upon his resurrection was restored back to the High Priesthood of Melchizedek. Please read the Hebrews study.

Yes, God was worshiped by the ancients; but NO the ancients did not understand that God consisted of two Beings and therefore they had no knowledge of a Father separate from a Son.

It was the Being who became the Son who interacted with humanity on behalf of the Being who became the Father; and after he gave up his Godhood to become flesh, he revealed that “God” consisted of two separate Beings: Something which had never been known until then.

No, God the Father did not interact with human beings before the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ.  Because of sin the Father rejected humanity, and the other God Being worked as a spirit High Priest [Melchizedek] to reconcile humanity to God the Father; even giving up his Godhood to be made flesh and die atoning for the sins of humanity.

The Law of Marriage and the Covenants

The Mosaic covenant was a Marriage Covenant and God was married to Israel at Sinai when the Covenant was established.

Jeremiah 3:14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the Lord; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

Jeremiah 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:

Consider that all marriages last as long as both parties live, and the surviving partner is freed to remarry only by the death of the other.

If God the Father were married to Mosaic Israel, then the Mosaic Marriage Covenant remains in effect and he is NOT free to marry a new bride and enter a New Marriage Covenant;  and Israel is NOT free to enter a New Covenant of Marriage with Jesus Christ!

To claim that God the Father is married to Mosaic Israel is to make the New Covenant of Jeremiah 31:31 between Jesus Christ and Israel; an adulterous incestuous union between a son and his Father’s wife!

In fact, even if the Father died; his wife is still not free to then marry her former husband’s son; which is incestuous!

Only Jesus Christ could be the God of the Old Testament and the Mosiac Covenant Husband of Israel; because only Jesus Christ became flesh and died, dissolving the Mosaic Marriage Covenant; and rising to new life as spirit only Jesus Christ can now lawfully enter into a New Covenant fulfilling Jeremiah 31.

If the Father was the God of Mosaic Israel and the God of the Old Testament; the Mosaic Covenant remains and there is NO New Covenant!

If anyone dares to say that the Father married Mosaic Israel and that the Father is also the Husband of the New Covenant with Israel (Jer 31); they must throw out all of the scriptures on the Son coming to resurrect his bride and the Marriage of the Lamb.

Revelation 19:7 Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.

The Creator, Jesus Christ; is the Only Redeemer

To redeem means to purchase back from another, as to redeem a pawned article. The redeemer is the individual who pays the price owed in order to acquire possession of the redeemed article.

Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

1:15  Who [the physical Jesus Christ] is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 1:16  For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

1:17 And he is [existed] before all things, and by him all things consist [came into existence, were made]. 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Hebrews 1:2-5 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; 1:3  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, 1:5 when he had by himself purged our sins [Jesus Christ purged repented sin by his death, therefore he alone is our Redeemer], sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Brethren:  Who is our Redeemer/  Who gave his life to redeem us from the wages of sin?  Who is the ROCK of our Salvation, the Chief Corner Stone of the spiritual Ekklesia?  Jesus Christ the Creator and NO other!

Mark claims that the Father is our Redeemer

Mark argues that the Father is also our Redeemer, quoting  2 Ti 1:8-9, Titus 3:4-6 and Zeph 3:17.  The problem with Mark’s argument on this point should be obvious.  Notice that the first two quotes came after Christ’s resurrection, while the third quote came BEFORE he was made flesh.

It is pure ASSUMPTION to claim that these verses refer to the Father!

In 2 Timothy 1 it should be obvious that the word Lord refers to Jesus Christ and not to God the Father; since Paul was encouraging Timothy not to be ashamed when he spoke to mostly Jews who considered themselves to be worshipers of God.

Why would one be ashamed to mention God to people who declared themselves to be of God?  On the other hand both Paul and Timothy were well aware that the Lord Jesus Christ was despised by a great many Jews, and Paul was obviously encouraging Timothy not to be ashamed to speak of Christ.

2 Timothy 1:8 Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;  1:9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,

Paul tells Titus that God gave mercy in sending the Son, but:  Who did the redeeming? Who was our Savior?

Yes, the Father sent the Redeemer; but it was the Son, the Lamb of God who did the redeeming, who paid the price for our redemption; it was Jesus Christ who died in our place paying the wages of sin for us and redeeming us from that debt obligation!

Titus 3:4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,  3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; 3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

Who is our Redeemer?  Colossians 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood [sacrifice], even the forgiveness of sins:

Now we come to Zephanaiah

Zephanaiah 3:17 The Lord [YHVH] thy God [Elohim] in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Again the false ASSUMPTION that YHVH refers exclusively to God the Father.  YHVH refers to the Godhead, to BOTH Beings in the God family; it is a family name!  These folks begin with a false assumption and then rest their subsequent arguments on that false assumption!

Personal

Brethren, I have no interest in hurting the UCG CoE by waiting until they approve their Paper and then analyzing it.  Quite the contrary I have felt moved to compile and publish this study before the CoE approves a Paper in December.  This Paper is published in love and concern, and in the hope that they will consider these points as they produce and approve their own Position Paper.

The end result of approving what they have been discussing is a drift into the Evangelical concept that the Mosaic Covenant was with the Father and the New Covenant is with Christ.

This potential new position, and yes it is a radical change of existing teachings; establishes the foundation of the evangelical concept that the Father was the God of the Old Mosaic Covenant with its laws, while Jesus Christ came to establish a New, different and much better Covenant where the laws given to Moses are no longer obligatory.

This potential heresy is the foundation of the gross error that the laws that God gave to Moses are optional and not obligatory in the New Covenant!

Once the CoE adopts their final Position Paper they will send it to the elders instructing them to teach it.

If they adopt anything similar to what they have discussed; over time as the heresy is accepted, it will do away with the obligatory nature of God’s instructions through Moses, just like the adoption of a similar position did for Joe Tkach.

Brethren, please ask your elders to read this Paper and carefully consider before crafting and approving a final Position Paper on the subject.

The following message has been sent to the UCG CoE.

For the Chairman and all Council Members
Chairman Ward
Members of the CoE

Gentlemen
Today I published a Paper on “The God of the Old Testament.” This exhaustive Paper was published in advance of your own deliberations, out of sincere love and concern, and in the hope that you will consider these points as you produce and approve your own Position Paper on the subject.

  1. This is not only beautiful truth, but it is also very compelling and sound biblical teaching. I CHALLENGE each person who reads this to be a Berean (ACTS 17:11) and prove from scriptures that these things are true. Let us make it personal. Let us make it sincere before our Great God.

May God soften our hearts to accept His truth and His word which is our WISDOM and our UNDERSTANDING and guarantees us safety in a very dangerous world.

    Thank you much.

  2. Greetings James,
Could you please explain from which scripture you derive the doctrine that at some point the two members of the Elohim family decided that one of them would become the Father and the other the Son. This belief implies that the one who became the Son gave up his equality and authority to the one who became the Father! I find this concept as confusing and illogical as the concept that God is a Trinity. And we know that ur eternal God is not a god of confusion!
    Regards,
    Didier

It is obvious that they had to be in agreement for the plan to succeed and that a decision had to be made as to which one would give up his Godhood to be made flesh and die for sin; and as to which one would be trusted to raise the other up. The decision placed one as dependent on the other.

Jesus said very clearly that he was subject to the Father: John 5:30 I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. John 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son. . . Now if a person have a son then he is a father; and the God Being who became the Father was the one who placed the other Being in the womb of Mary as must have been predetermined: since otherwise who would fulfill each role?
