This is a reprint of “The Elijah Work” posts from January 2012.
The Elijah Work
If someone is doing an “Elijah” work; they must be doing God’s work in the spirit and power of Elijah; and they must be doing what Elijah did which is to declare that the Eternal is God and beside Him there is NO other.
To DO an “Elijah” work a person must be like Elijah in character, attitude and approach towards the things of God.
So who was this Elijah, what was he like and what did he do?
In the scriptures we find three different men said to be Elijah’s: First is the original Elijah and the next two are to be just like the original.
These three come over a span of time, with the original Elijah in ancient Israel; the next Elijah preparing the way for the first coming of Christ and the final Elijah preparing the way for the coming of Christ and the Kingdom of God.
The First Elijah
The first Elijah was zealous for the commandments of God! There was NO compromising with him, therefore GOD HEARD him and God granted his requests and answered his prayers! Elijah was ZEALOUS for the Eternal and ALL the commandments of Almighty God!
Elijah was sent to exalt the Eternal above ALL else and restore the people of the covenant to their God!
Then Ahab king of Israel saw Elijah whom he blamed for the drought. It seems clear that Ahab and Jezebel blamed not only Elijah but all the men of God for the famine and used that excuse to slaughter hem.
Elijah immediately sets the record straight, informing Ahab that the famine came from God as the result of the idolatry of Ahab and his people.
18:17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? 18:18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father’s house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.
Elijah would not have done this on his own, but would have been doing what God had commanded him. This event was set up by the famine which demonstrated to the people that God was stronger than baal who could not bring rain when God had withheld it. Elijah then tells Ahab to assemble the 450 priests of baal. This was to reveal that the Eternal is God and that the idols of men were not gods at all.
Like this event, when Christ comes he will reveal that the Eternal is God to all nations and he will destroy all idolatry and wickedness from off the earth.
18:19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table. 18:20 So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.
Then Elijah challenges the people to chose between their idols of men and the whole Word of the Eternal God!
18:21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.
There were other men of God, but only Elijah dared to take an open stand and to publicly stand alone upon the whole Word of God. How like that, it is today.
18:22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men.
Elijah then prepared a demonstration for the people to help them to finally understand who was the true God; the Eternal or the idols of men.
- In our time God will again withhold the rain for 31/2 years and the false gods of men will not be able to relieve the drought, proving that the Eternal is the greater.
- Then at the end of that 31/2 years he will raise the godly dead back to life, this time as eternal spirits in the sight of the nations, proving the power and greatness of God the Almighty.
- After that demonstration of power, Messiah the Christ will return to the earth with his resurrected faithful and they will destroy wickedness from off the earth, just like Elijah and the repentant of Israel destroyed the prophets [servants] of baal! Only this time the repentance will be lasting and God’s Kingdom will rule over all the earth
18:23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: 18:24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.
The idol followers went first
18:25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under. 18:26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.
18:27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked. 18:28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them. 18:29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice [the sacrifice was offered (burned on the altar) at sunset, even though the preparations began about 3 p.m.], that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.
Elijah came next and in comparison to a whole day’s appeal to Baal, Elijah prayed for only a few seconds.
18:30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down. 18:31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name: 18:32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.
18:33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood. 18:34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time. 18:35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.
18:36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice [the sacrifice was offered (burned on the altar) at sunset, even though the preparations began 3 p.m.], that Elijah the prophet came near, and said,
The Prayer of Elijah
LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. 18:37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.
Then the Eternal YHVH answered by fire upon the altar.
18:38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.
At the end of the tribulation and the day of the LORD, after all the wicked are destroyed; all nations will acknowledge God the Father and Messiah the Christ, and they will welcome him at his coming WITH his resurrected chosen.
18:39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.
Then the prophets of baal were destroyed just like all of the idols of men will be destroyed at the beginning of the Kingdom of God. Then the ten kings will understand that they have been deceived by the false prophet and they will turn on the false religions and destroy them.
Revelation 17:16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17:17 For God hath put in their hearts [allowed them to be deceived] to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.
1 Kings 18:40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.
Elijah then told Ahab not to fear eating and drinking without the restraint of the famine, for the rain comes, because of the destruction of baal and the idols and false religion of men.
These heavy rains are a type of the Holy Spirit raining down on all flesh once wickedness has been destroyed and the Kingdom of God established (Joel 2:28).
18:41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
Seven times Elijah checked the seacoast skies for rain, before it came.
18:42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, 18:43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
18:44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.
As clouds filled the sky, king Ahab ran to Jezebel in Samaria, and Elijah ran to meet him in the way, because of the word of the LORD to Elijah..
18:45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel. 18:46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
Elijah did not preach some watered down message about a coming kingdom! NO indeed: he preached repentance and a turning back to the Holy One of Israel! He did this with POWER and AUTHORITY; the AUTHORITY of God’s commandments!
Elijah was not afraid to tell the truth to kings and men of renown! He was NOT afraid of the people or of offending others. He stood up BOLDLY and with courage; to tell the truth of God and to call the church of God of his day to repentance.
1 Corinthians 14:8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
He boldly declared that the false ministers were false ministers indeed, and he called for their destruction to demonstrate the fate of ALL false teachers at the hands of Jesus Christ.
Those who compromise with God’s law; who teach tolerance foe sin: Those who use prophecies of the pagan Maya, Roman Catholics [the very beast itself] and other pagan sources to support their positions: Are false prophets as surely as the prophets of Baal!
And Jesus Christ will DESTROY them, if they do not repent as Elijah taught and as the law requires.
Deu 13:1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and giveth thee a sign or a wonder,
2And the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
3Thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for the LORD your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
4Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
5And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he hath spoken to turn you away from the LORD your God,
Any man who comes up with a prophetic interpretation and then uses the teachings of the pagans to support that position IS a false prophet! Any man who teaches to tolerate and overlook sin IS a false prophet and will be destroyed by Christ if he does not repent.
Sin is NOT to be overlooked or tolerated: Sin is to be abhorred and despised for the murderous life destroying thing that it is. If we love the brethren we will teach what sin is, we will teach to never tolerate sin; we will love the people by helping them to overcome sin; by helping to break the chains of slavery to the god king of this world, as the Lamb of God has set us an example on Passover!
Elijah loved the Eternal with a passionate zeal and he ACTED on that love; his love was a verb a positive action to declare the truth and commandments of the Eternal and to destroy all wickedness out of the church of his day.
THE END TIME ANALOGY
This whole story in 1 kings 18 is an allegory of the end times!
Stand back and look at the overview! Elijah holds back the rain for 3 1/2 years and then at the end of the 3 1/2 years the false prophets are destroyed and the rain comes down!
When Christ comes very many who believe themselves to be God’s people and ministry will face rejection from Christ because of their lack of zeal for his commandments.
Mat 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
Elijah was a true man of God, because he was passionately zealous for his God! He was not a fearing to offend, wishy washy spiritual wimp, nor was he preaching a tertiary gospel about a coming kingdom: He preached REPENTANCE and OBEDIENCE to ALL of God’s commandments!
The primary commission of God’s people is to teach all men to keep ALL of God’s commandments and is found in:
Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:
Jas 5:17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Yes, Elijah was a real flesh and blood man! Who was passionate about God and his law If we want to do an “Elijah” work we too must be passionate about God and his law.
Or are we lukewarm wishy washy and careless about God’s commandments. Do we boldly declare what sin is and boldly preach repentance from sin? Or do we present self help messages and speak of a coming kingdom that will solve all our problems, without any real reference to the need to keep ALL of God’s commandments?
Do we even keep God’s commandments ourselves with any degree of zeal? We walk all over God’s Holy Sabbath day and His Holy Days and we exalt the traditions of men; above the word of God.
Those who are NOT as passionate as Elijah was, could never do an Elijah work! If we are not filled with that same spirit of passionate love for God and his Law it would be impossible to do a similar work!
If Elijah were to appear today: He would be rejected and called: Extremist; Self-righteous; Pharisaical, Over Righteous; and the COG Groups would demand of him: Just who do you think you are to criticize God’s church and people as being less than spiritually perfect? If he were to try to turn them to the Eternal they would just declare: We are spiritually rich and have need of nothing, you are crazy to disagree with us!
These Groups will reject God’s two prophets when they come, because they are too proud to admit any error in their beliefs and traditions. How then, can they do an Elijah work when they would reject Elijah if he were to stand right before them?
Mat 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Those who reject the Moses and Elijah to come would also reject Christ if he came to speak the truth to them; they will not be in God’s kingdom unless they repent.
Rev 3:19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. 20Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
ELIJAH: PART 2
Malachi introduces a later day Elijah in the context of preparing the way for Christ; and of zeal for the commandments of God given through Moses.
Mal 4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with [spiritual and physical] healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
3And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
4Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
5Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
6And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.
The ONLY way that Elijah can turn the hearts of children and fathers to each other; is to TURN THE HEARTS of ALL MEN TO ALMIGHTY GOD; our Father in heaven!
The job of Elijah is to turn men back to the Eternal as the first Elijah did! Malachi gave the physical context and Jesus Christ came to give the spiritual context. Jesus said that John Baptist was this Elijah to come.
Mat 17:10 And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
11And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
12But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
13Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.
Let us look at this John and his mission.
Luk 1:5 THERE was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.
6And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
7And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.
8And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest’s office before God in the order of his cours 9According to the custom of the priest’s office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.
10And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense. 11And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
12And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him. 13But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
John’s birth was by a miracle form God and was predicted to John’s father. And at this point the mission of John is stated.
14And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
15For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
16And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.
In the latter day context; “the children of Israel” is a reference to the ‘Called of the Father”, the saints of God who have strayed away from their Father. This is identical to the mission of the first Elijah.
At this point the angel specifically identifies John a being in the spirit and power of Elijah, a type of Elijah; quoting Malachi and adding a little more. John would have the same passionate zeal for God and ALL his commandments and he would have the same courage to take a stand and tell the truth to the powerful in Israel [the latter day spiritual Israel as well]!
Luke 1:17 And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
John is to “make ready” a people prepared for the coming of Christ!
At the birth of John; God’s spirit motivates Zacharias to prophesy of the child:
Luk 1:76 And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways; 77To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,
78Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,
79To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
80And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.
The mission of John was to turn the people to God and his law, to provide light in the darkness, to give the knowledge of the way to salvation and to prepare the way for Messiah!
Mat 17:11 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
This John was to restore the things of God that had been forgotten and that had not been taught, just like the first Elijah restored the things of God; and just like the final Elijah will restore the things of God.
The second Elijah was to be full of the same passion for God and his commandments as the first; and the final Elijah likewise. All three working to restore the things of God that have fallen aside and turning many in the “COG” of their day BACK TO GOD! In so doing the second Elijah prepared the way for the first coming of Christ in the flesh; and the third will prepare the way for Christs return to rule the nations.
The three Elijah’s all have the same basic task; which is to turn the hearts of God’s elect back to him. That presupposes that God’s elect HAD indeed strayed, as they did in the days of the first Elijah and as the Pharisees did just before the physical coming of Christ.
As the first two Elijah’s were needed to correct the “COG” of their day; another Elijah will be sent in this latter day to also restore all things, to turn God’s elect back to the righteousness of the just and to a passionate zeal for God and his commandments; and to prepare the way for the coming of the Kingdom of God!
There is very much to think about in this post, as the mission of Elijah has not been well understood or taught.
Tomorrow’s post will be on the third Elijah of the latter days; and the witness of the two prophets.
Elijah Part 3
Before I get started I would like to say that COGWA wants to do an Elijah work and there is nothing wrong with that!
We are to do as Jesus Christ did, and Elijah was closely connected to Christ and in many ways is a good example to emulate.
The point I want to make is that we cannot DO an Elijah work, without being LIKE Elijah in passionate zeal for God and all of his commandments. Zeal for our group, leader or some dead man’s interpretation of scripture does not make it.
We must do an Elijah work by setting an Elijah example of passionate love and zeal for God and his law.
Neither LCG nor COGWA are the end time Elijah: Yet they can still set an Elijah example and do an Elijah style work of proclaiming repentance and zeal for God and his commandments; if they and LCG and the other Groups only would.
I sincerely believe that the final two prophets will be of the spirit of Elijah and Moses. They are literal men as were Moses and the two previous Elijah’s, however that does not preclude others from following the example of Christ, Moses and Elijah in their example of zealous obedience and love for God and his law.
I myself seek to follow the example of Jesus Christ, Moses and Elijah. That does NOT make me a Christ, Moses or Elijah; any more than following that example would make COGWA or anyone else; a Christ, Moses or Elijah.
In short: We should ALL be following those examples.
At the appointed time, the Father will reveal who the latter day Moses and Elijah are; by empowering them as he empowered the Moses and Elijah of the past.
Malachi 4:5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
Jesus said that John Baptist was this Elijah, yet he was clearly Elijah only in part since Malachi spoke of an Elijah: ”before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:”
This is the same as when Peter spoke of Joel being fulfilled at Pentecost in the first century; yet Joel 2:28 also speaks of the day of the Lord.
As God poured out his spirit [only in part] upon a few at that first century Pentecost; he will pour out his spirit upon ALL FLESH at the establishment of the Kingdom on a future Pentecost!
As John the Elijah, prepared for the coming of Christ in the flesh; another latter day Elijah will prepare for the establishment of God’s Kingdom in the latter days.
Elijah shall prepare the way of the Lord and proclaim a message of repentance and hope! He shall declare that the Eternal is God and beside him there is NO other! He shall declare the glory and power of the Eternal, just as the other Elijah’s and Moses did in the past. He shall teach repentance and proclaim hope when humanity is destitute of hope! Is 40.
The mission of the two prophets is to proclaim and witness:
Is 23:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.
11I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.
Why TWO witnesses? Because that is what the law requires! And God keeps his own law!
DEU 19:15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall the matter be established.
Peter, James and John were given a vision along with Christ in which Christ was talking with Moses and Elijah: Thus demonstrating that Moses and Elijah were the two who stood with and beside Christ.
Mat 17:1 And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into an high mountain apart,
2And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
3And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Zechariah asks the angel three times who these two olive trees are; who empty the oil out of themselves and into the lamp-stand.
Zech 4:1 And the angel that talked with me came again, and waked me, as a man that is wakened out of his sleep.
2And said unto me, What seest thou? And I said, I have looked, and behold a candlestick all of gold, with a bowl upon the top of it, and his seven lamps thereon, and seven pipes to the seven lamps, which are upon the top thereof:
3And two olive trees by it, one upon the right side of the bowl, and the other upon the left side thereof.
Zech 4:12 And I answered again, and said unto him, What be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves?
And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my lord.
14Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the LORD of the whole earth.
Brethren, the lamp-stand with its seven branches is the seven churches of Revelation 2/3. The oil is the Holy Spirit which enables the light of the seven churches to shine brightly; and at the end time this light is flickering out; because the oil of God’s spirit needs to be replenished!
It is this lamp-stand; picturing the shining light of the seven parts of the Church of God, which is the logo for this work.
We have forgotten that it is not by our power or might, but by the spirit of God that all things spiritual are accomplished! Groups count on numbers of dollars and attendee numbers and are so proud of what they have built an dof their traditions and they have forgotten that: the Work is the Lord’s!
Moses and Elijah KNEW THAT! The latter day Moses and Elijah will KNOW that! They will rely on the Eternal! That is the source of their power! A dedicated passionate love for God and his law will allow the Father to fill them with the oil of his spirit to the point that it will pour through them and rom them as olive trees, into the seven churches; reviving, uplifting and empowering their lights to begin to blaze forth in the bright light of dawn!
Brethren, our lights have been flickering OUT! Because we have turned away from spiritual things and focused on physical things and debated who was greatest among us as we fell short in our Father’s eyes.
Zech 4:6 Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
A strong witness is being given even now; and when these two are set up they will give a much stronger witness!
Initially many will reject them, only to quickly and immediately repent when their fears come upon them and they realize that they were mistaken and should have accepted the warnings.
The Two Witnesses
IN Revelation 11 these two prophets are likened to two lampstands; that is because there were seven parts to the Mosaic Covenant Israel and seven parts to the new spiritual Israel.
Here we see in Zech [two olive trees], and in Rev 11 [two lamp-stands] and Mat 17 [two persons standing beside Christ] all linked together.
Rev 11:3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. 4These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth.
They will have the power to fulfill their mission, which is from God and is NOT their own. This is a part of their witness [along with the message] and proves that this witness is of God for it fulfills the word of God.
Rev 11:5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth [at their command], and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed.
6These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not [as Elijah did] in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood [as Moses did] , and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will.
That is because their will is consistent with God’s will; they will know how to handle such power and will do so in a godly manner and according to God’s will. They will know that if they abuse this power that God will NOT back them up.
7And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
8And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.
When they have completed their time, they will be killed and shall lie dead in Jerusalem. We KNOW that they are NOT some true church organization, because they will lie dead in the streets of Jerusalem for 3 1/2 days and scripture tells us that: Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter [a pebble], and upon this Rock [Christ] I will build my church; and the gates of hell [DEATH] shall not prevail against it.
Rev 11:11 And after three days and an half the spirit of life from God entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell upon them which saw them.
12And they heard a great voice from heaven saying unto them, Come up hither. And they ascended up to heaven in a cloud; and their enemies beheld them.
13And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.
14The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.
15And the seventh angel sounded; and there were great voices in heaven, saying, The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever.
We KNOW that this speaks of the resurrection since; Rev 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.
This is proof positive that the resurrection is BEFORE the seven last plagues are poured out [they are poured out as the seven vials AFTER the seventh trump sounds]! The Wedding of the Lamb will take place in heaven just after the seventh trump begins to sound and while the last plagues are poured out! Then the Groom and bride will come to establish their residence on the earth!
This is the KEY to understanding the days of Dan 12 and the true meanings of the Feasts!
