The function of a priest is to teach godliness to all people and in doing so work to reconcile people with God.
The function of a king is to enforce God’s Word, maintain public order, ensure the public good by providing services and to make any necessary rules based upon the Word of God. To learn more about these offices and duties study the articles in our Priesthood Ministry category beginning with number 101.
Consider the farm, if the farmer wants a harvest then he must cultivate and plant, care for his crop and then work hard to harvest it.
In reality preparation and hard work is required to prepare oneself for any trade. We are born knowing nothing and we learn to walk and talk by copying our parents. From there we learn to read and write, do basic arithmetic; and then we must begin to prepare to learn a trade or profession. If we desire to become a doctor we must count the cost of the expense and the many years of study needed and we must be wiling to pay the price to attain the goal. The same thing is true in the spiritual realm.
Luke 14:28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it? 14:29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him, 14:30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
Brethren, many have been deceived into thinking that all they must do is pay and pray and listen to some man to receive the gift of an eternal priest king reward.
No, to receive the reward we must pay our dues; we must diligently WORK to seek godliness with all our beings. We must study continually to learn, to advance in truth and understanding; we must be ready to instantly reject any error once we find it and prove the matter.
To qualify to become a king listen and obey the words of David who was trained to be the eternal king of all Israel.
Psalm 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
The man who does not compromise with the commandments of God; who does not follow the counsel of the ungodly, who does not encourage sin by teaching the lie that God will understand and forgive willful sin: The person who does not live sinfully by the willful breaking of any of the commandments of God and who rejects those who scorn passionate love and zeal for the law of the God of Jacob; the one who lives passionately with Christ-like zeal to live by EVERY WORD of God: Are the people who will be called “The Blessed of the Lord” at his coming!
1:2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
If we seek our God and think on his Word day and night; if we drink deeply of the waters of the Word and Spirit of our God to do them; we shall bear much fruit in our spiritual lives.
As a tree drinks water from the earth and bears its fruit in season, if we deeply drink of the water of the Word of God, to live by EVERY WORD of God we shall bear much fruit in the proper season of God’s will.
Matthew 13:8 But other [seed of God’s Word] fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.
Psalm 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
The ungodly who cling to the false traditions of men and exalt idols of men above any zeal to live by every Word of God will have no spiritual growth, they are spiritually DEAD and will be disappointed in that day. The ungodly who teach tolerance for the willful breaking of ANY part of God’s Word, who supplant the commandments of God with their own ways; they shall spiritually dry up and be driven away by every wind of false doctrine until they be destroyed.
1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
Those who are not passionately zealously diligent in internalizing the nature of God through the doing of his will and enthusiastically living by every Word of God; will NOT be resurrected to eternal life in the day of judgment nor will they stand in the resurrected congregation of the righteous first fruits on the heavenly Crystal Expanse before the throne of God (Rev 15).
1:6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
The ungodly are those who compromise with a zealous and diligent, night and day internalizing of the Word God and who refuse to live by every Word of God, preferring their own ways, idols of men and false traditions above the Word of God.
Yes, to qualify for a priest-kingship we must first learn who is the head of the priest kings, and we must learn to put him first above all men!
Jesus Christ is our High Priest and King above all kings, and God the Father, King of the Universe is our head and the head of Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:3 But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
To qualify for a priest-kingship we must learn, internalize and live by every Word of God! We must put the Word of God above every man, no matter what title he claims for himself; and we must reject every false tradition of men and be filled to the full with a passionate zeal to live by EVERY Word of God!
If we blindly follow any man without testing and proving his words by the Word of God, we are followers of men and not God; and we will NOT be among the chosen at the first resurrection.
Deuteronomy 17:15 Thou shalt in any wise set him king over thee, whom the Lord thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee: thou mayest not set a stranger over thee, which is not thy brother [spiritually we are not to follow an ungodly leader].
Deuteronomy 17:18 And it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites:
The prerequisite to be a priest and a teacher of God’s Word is to KNOW God’s Word; and the prerequisite to be a righteous king enforcing God’s Word is to KNOW God’s Word.
No novice should ever be ordained; and no novice will be given the responsibility of an eternal priesthood (1 Ti 3:6).
What is a novice? A novice is a new unskilled, unlearned inexperienced person who does not know the Word of God or how to apply it and teach it. To be among the chosen we must dedicate ourselves to learn, internalize and live by every Word of God with a whole heart!
Jesus Christ studied and diligently prepared himself for his ministry which began at the age of thirty. Even at the tender age of twelve he was busy preparing himself.
Luke 2:46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. Luke 2:49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?
Brethren, we must follow the example of Jesus Christ and be about our Father’s business!
Brethren, knowledge and understanding comes as a gift from God, but we must be willing to put in the effort to learn and internalize God’s Word.
Studying individual doctrinal subjects is important, but there is no substitute for diligent study through the entirety of Holy Scripture.
Everything written in the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation was written for our instruction to teach us the way to eternal life in peace with God and humanity.
Romans 15:4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works
1 Corinthians 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat; 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
10:5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.
10:7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play. 10:8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.
10:9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents. 10:10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.
10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
All of recorded scripture from Genesis to Revelation is the complete Word of God and is intended as instruction for humanity, to teach us to loath wickedness and to love and embrace the righteousness of godliness, which brings us the peace and secure prosperity that mankind longs for.
Studying individual doctrinal subjects or even the New Testament without a solid knowledge of the Old Testament is like trying to build a house without a foundation.
The being who gave up his Godhood to become flesh as Jesus Christ inspired the entire Old Testament first, as the basic foundation for the New Testament.
The New Testament is an explanation of the spiritual intent of the Old Testament and if one does not know the basics, now can they properly understand what is built on those basics?
In this matter, a misunderstanding of the words of Christ has been a stumbling block to many in the assemblies. Many have taken the words of Christ in Luke 12 and used them as an excuse for spiritual laziness.
Luke 12:11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: 12:12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.
Many mistakenly think that these words mean that God’s Spirit will show them what to say and that they therefore need not be diligent in personal study.
To properly understand the Word of God we must put all scriptures together on the same subject. Jesus further explains this subject in John.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Notice carefully here, Jesus says that the Holy Spirit will teach all things and will then bring those things to remembrance as they are needed.
How does this work?
The parable of the pounds
Luke 19:11 And as they heard these things, he added and spake a parable, because he was nigh to Jerusalem, and because they thought that the kingdom of God should immediately appear.
19:12 He said therefore, A certain nobleman [Christ went to the Father] went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom, and to return.
Each of Christ’s called out servants is given a portion of God’s Spirit.
19:13 And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy [wait faithfully for me to return] till I come.
Then many of the brethren became entangled in their own pursuits and departed from their lord, rejecting him.
This speaks of the rejection of living by every Word of God in today’s Ekklesia.
19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a message after him, saying, We will not have this man to reign over us.
At the resurrection Christ judges his called out by how much they have grown and overcome, by the amount of their zeal in study, applying the Word of God in their lives and exercising their gift of God’s Spirit.
19:15 And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.
The person who was loyal and through hard work and zeal, increased his gift ten times, received a good reward; just as the diligently faithful to live by every Word of God and to continually grow in godliness will have their reward.
19:16 Then came the first, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained ten pounds. 19:17 And he said unto him, Well, thou good servant: because thou hast been faithful in a very little, have thou authority over ten cities.
The next man receives in direct proportion to his zeal and hard work; just as the called to God will be rewarded in direct proportion to their zeal to learn and live by every Word of God.
19:18 And the second came, saying, Lord, thy pound hath gained five pounds. 19:19 And he said likewise to him, Be thou also over five cities.
The person who is fearful and sits on his gift and makes no effort to study, grow, overcome and zealously please God, but is content to leave his salvation to idols of men and corporate organizations: will lose what he has been given for he is NOT worthy to receive anything.
The person who says; “all I have to do, is to do what the elder says and I have it made” will lose all, for his spiritual fear of using God’s Spirit and his spiritual laziness.
Being a part of some corporate church, even being baptized and receiving the gift of God’s Spirit, does NOT mean that anyone has it made!
On the other hand the man who has proved himself to be industrious and faithful, will receive the portion that had been taken from the wicked spiritually lazy, because God knows that he will use it wisely.
We must go onward and build our character house on that initial gift of God’s Spirit! If we do not use it: We will surely lose it!
19:20 And another came, saying, Lord, behold, here is thy pound, which I have kept laid up in a napkin: 19:21 For I feared thee, because thou art an austere man: thou takest up that thou layedst not down, and reapest that thou didst not sow.
19:22 And he saith unto him, Out of thine own mouth will I judge thee, thou wicked servant. Thou knewest that I was an austere man, taking up that I laid not down, and reaping that I did not sow: 19:23 Wherefore then gavest not thou my money into the bank, that at my coming I might have required mine own with usury? 19:24 And he said unto them that stood by, Take from him the pound, and give it to him that hath ten pounds.
The slothful and fearful servant had his part taken away and given to the zealous energetic person.
Why? Because the Master KNOWS that the energetic over-comer will also be an energetic, zealous ruler over his cities to teach his people to be passionately faithful to God!
19:25 (And they said unto him, Lord, he hath ten pounds.) 19:26 For I say unto you, That unto every one which hath [been zealous and increased the portion of the Spirit given to him] shall be given; and from him that hath not [has not used and increased his portion of God’s Spirit], even that he hath shall be taken away from him.
Those who quench God’s Spirit by refusing to diligently study and grow to live by every Word of God, are in rebellion against God and have become Christ’s enemies!
Those who refuse to obey the Word of God; instead, standing on their own false traditions, or idolizing men and organizations ABOVE God’s Word; by doing what men say and not doing what God says; and who equate loyalty to men with godliness: SHALL BE DESTROYED by Almighty God!
This is not some kind of game. Its either ALL THE WAY, in living by EVERY WORD of GOD; or we shall be rejected, cast out; and if we still do not repent; DESTROYED from life eternal!
Here is the crux of the matter
We must be diligent to study and learn godliness, and if we apply what we learn in our lives, the Holy Spirit will enable us to understand, retain, internalize and live by God’s Word.
If we do these things, we need not be filled with anxiety over how to give an answer for the hope we have, because God’s Spirit will bring to remembrance the things which we have learned and will guide us in what we should say.
Brethren, the time is far spent: Let us be up and about our Father’s business! Let us work just as hard as we can to learn and internalize EVERY WORD OF GOD, seeking understanding from God and being willing to discard all error.
