Church of God News Blog: 2017, 25 May –

24 Jun: LCG News:  The sermon in Charlotte today by Rod McNair was titled “Peter and the Key Man Principle”  and touted the Primacy of Peter principle of Nicolaitane leadership which has been followed by LCG since its inception.

See what the bible really says on this subject in our lessons 101 to 106 on this subject.

Our Sabbath book containing this material has been in circulation for some months now and is making such an impact in LCG, that a sermon on the subject was thought as needed to try to defend this wicked exalting of men above the Word of God.  Download the entire book for free at our Home page.  Feel free to download the book and share it with others.

23 Jun:  COGWA elders Todd Carey and Manuel Quijano died over the past month.. David Hicks was hired as COGWA Managing Editor.

Deacon Chad Messerly has been hired as a paid elder to assist Lyle Welty in Ohio.

LCG News:  LCG is preparing “A Tribute to Rod Meredith”  TV broadcast.

This weekend LCG is holding public presentations in  Rolla, Missouri and Salisbury, Maryland.  Gerald writes “In Canada we have Windsor, Ontario and Grand Prairie, Alberta.”

20 Jun:  COGWA publishes Ministerial Conference Report.  The focus is to become more zealous for COGWA.

18 Jun:  LCG’s Rod King retires due to serious health issues.

15 Jun:  UCG News:  On June 10, 2017, Jim Lucas was ordained into the ministry. He and his wife, Almeda, serve the congregations in southern Ontario, Canada. He will become Assistant Pastor for the Ottawa congregation on July 1.

On June 10, 2017, Ellsworth Stanley was ordained into the ministry. He and his wife, Dorothy, serve in the St. John’s, Newfoundland, congregation in Canada.

LifeNets operated by Victor Kubik is strongly entangling itself in UCG and taking over much of UCG’s international third world activities.

Victor writes that “Rotary has helped LifeNets with over $150,000 for our overseas work”. LifeNets has a large presence of UCG elders on it Boards and staff  and the UCG is subbing out a part of the financing and subsidizing of its international third world churches to LifeNets; which is how they maintain the illusion of financial health inside UCG.

Rotary thinks that they are helping Kubik’s Rotary Club LifeNets do good works; I wonder what they would think if they knew that while legally independent, LifeNets is associated with UCG and that they are being used to subsidize UCG’s overseas third world churches? Maybe they do know and do not care?

Victor was recently in Atlanta for the Rotary International Convention.

LifeNets announces the death of LifeNets Malawi Board member and UCG elder [Oakland] Mark Rorem of San Francisco, California, on May 31 – funeral on June 10 – a faithful LifeNets board member for nearly 15 years.  Mark’s son Gregory is also associated with LifeNets involving himself in LifeNets [read UCG] youth camps around the world.

Church of God Seventh Day:  The biennial convention will take place on July 3-8 in Springfield, Illinois.   The theme is ‘Worthy is the Lamb’. Proposals will be put forward to revise the General Conference bylaws.

8 Jun:   COGWA announces the death of elder Todd Carey.  Jim Franks mentions that;  Britt Taylor (COGWA treasurer), David Baker (member of the COGWA Ministerial Board of Directors), Ron Kelley (local pastor for COGWA) and his wife Nancy, and I [Jim Franks] attended Dr. Meredith’s funeral service on Sunday, May 28, along with many others from various Church of God groups.

UCG:  On June 4, 2017, Kent Foraker was ordained into the ministry. He and his wife, Kristy, serve in the Wichita, Kansas, congregation.

On June 4, 2017, Roberto Parada was ordained into the ministry. He and his wife, Barbara, serve in the Tacoma, Washington, congregation.

Today Victor Kubik wrote about his Pentecost sermon saying:  “On Pentecost, I gave the sermon and I look to a time that is described in the second chapter of the book of Acts. The Holy Spirit was powerfully poured out on the Church and that power was the game changer as the Church suddenly grew from 120 to 3000 and then by another 2000 shortly afterward. This great outpouring was promised to the “Last Days” yet to come. What happened at Pentecost in 31 A.D. was only a type of what will yet happen.”

Victor is trying to motivate the brethren to stay with UCG by falsely implying that there will be a pouring out of God’s Spirit and major growth in UCG in the future.  He is also implying that any changes being made are inspired by God’s Spirit.  Please see the Holy Spirit series of studies.

Victor seems to be reading Acts 2 and not studying any further to include the scripture that Peter is quoting. No Victor the pouring out of God’s Spirit is NOT promised for the latter days as he claims;  it is promised to take place AFTER the Day of the Lord and the coming of Jesus Christ as King of kings (Joel 2).

For the latter days before Christ comes, a great apostasy is foretold  (Mat 24, 2 Thess 2:3, Jude and many others).  It is after the correction  of the tribulation and after Christ comes, that God will pour out his Spirit on all flesh (Joel 2:28).

For the real story of Pentecost and its prophetic significance please do study the Spring Festivals categories at the Bible Studies site and download the free Spring Festivals book at the Literature page there.

7 Jun:   Over the past few months God has been stirring up many LCG brethren – and many from other COG Groups – to come to see the Sanctity of the Sabbath and / or the Calendar issue, either on their own or via our book “The Biblical Sabbath and Calendar”  available for free download at our sites.

So many LCG brethren have been questioning their elders – who have been unable to give satisfactory answers, that LCG is now demanding that the brethren obey and shut up.

See Gerald Weston’s 1 June 2017  “Trust and Obey”  [LCG NOT GOD] sermon, at this link.

Added to Weston’s sermon is this comment by Doug Winnail.  See “Big Picture or Loose bricks” at this link.

Winnail tries to claim that the scriptures are ambiguous and that the brethren need to obey LCG leaders and are not to question the LCG interpretations of the scriptures.  Doug then falsely implies that the scriptures which allow administrative decisions also allow them to interpret and bind their own opinions of the Word of God.

Of course this is all falsehood and double talk!  What is ambiguous about: Exodus 16:23 He said to them, “This is what the Lord commanded: ‘Tomorrow is to be a day of sabbath rest, a holy sabbath to the Lord. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.’” 16:24 So they saved it until morning, as Moses commanded, and it did not stink or get maggots in it. 16:25 “Eat it today,” Moses said, “because today is a sabbath to the Lord. You will not find any of it on the ground today. 16:26 Six days you are to gather it, but on the seventh day, the Sabbath, there will not be any.”

Notice this command, not to gather or cook food on the Sabbath was made before they arrived at Sinai to prepare them for receiving the full Sabbath commandment:

Exodus 20:8 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.

20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:  20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

20:11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

There is absolutely NOTHING ambiguous about God’s Sabbath commandment; we are NOT to procure food, we are NOT to cook and we are NOT to cause any other person or even animal to work on the weekly and annual Sabbath days.

These things are not new to LCG, UCG and COGWA, rather I have made them well aware of the commandment and they are choosing to maintain their traditions above turning to the Word of Almighty God.

These COG Groups and others have chosen to FIGHT the Word of God by setting themselves up as the final arbiters of God’s Word; setting themselves up above God’s Word like other men of sin.

Let no man lead you into God’s corrective tribulation or lead you into sin and so take your crown!

Are you afraid of the truth, or do you still have that first love of all truth?  See what these “educated, spiritual men” cannot answer and so they must demand obedience to false tradition  in place of a spiritually honest answer!

READ THE BOOK “The Biblical Sabbath and Calendar” available for free download here; and consider whether we should zealously obey men or God. Extensive additional information is also available at the Sabbath Calendar category on the sidebar.

1 Jun:  The COGWA ministerial conference was held in the Dallas area, May 21-24. About 270 ministers and wives [like the other major groups they add the wives to the total to  make the ministry seem bigger] convened for two days of meetings.  COGWA meetings are a chance for the leaders to give a pep talk to the elders.

The UCG Tkach following leadership made a tremendous effort to get the changes to the majorities needed to modify fundamental teachings approved at the recent GCE Conference.  President Kubik lobbied elders for months before the vote and many of those elders supporting the change in turn lobbied other elders very hard; sometimes even encouraging brethren to write their friends in other congregations to encourage their elders to vote in support of the proposed change.

Yet the effort was a failure at attaining the 3/4 ths majority needed as only about two thirds of elders voted in favor and about one third voted against.  In fact the effort was worse than a failure because it has polarized many in the UCG ministry.  Only a small handful today believe that the leadership has no interest in making formal doctrinal changes towards Tkach evangelicalism.

Despite all the talk of unity UCG is now deeply divided again, with about two thirds supporting doctrinal change and one third against, with a handful still keeping their eyes tightly closed to the truth.  At this point the UCG leadership realizes that the only way to get their way, is to split off even more of the ministry.  With the tribulation at the door, will UCG split again?

A most interesting set of circumstances is developing in the three major COG Groups as many in the other two groups are also slowly becoming more and more disillusioned.  As people from each group visit the other groups looking for a godly place, and as world events unfold;  will some turn to a zeal for living by every Word of God?  Let us pray that God’s will will be done.

28 May:  LCG News:  On Thursday of this week, Mr. Ames, Dr. Winnail, and I held an hour-long video conference over the Internet with over 200 ministers and wives around the world. During the meeting, we discussed the importance of holding on to the biblical truths that Mr. Armstrong and Dr. Meredith have emphasized, and the challenge of fulfilling our mission of preaching the Gospel, warning the world of a coming judgment, and caring for God’s people in a rapidly changing world.—Gerald Weston.”

Additionally LCG writes the same false take on prophecy that the other COG Groups also support; that the king of the North is Christianity  and the king of the south is Islam when Psalm 83 names the Islamic countries as allied with the Ashur [Germany] a main part of the king of the North.  The scriptures clearly state that the king of the north is a federal system of ten nations ALLIED with the Islamic nations; and Egypt with her allies [America and Judah] are the king of the south.

These folks have no understanding because they reject the Word of God for the false traditions of men and have no zeal for God’s Sabbath.  Please download our “Bible Prophecy” and the Biblical Sabbath and Calendar” books at the Free page to see what the scriptures say.

This is NOT what Herbert taught,  and neither did HWA teach the false idea that there will be a three and one half year work after peace is declared.  He taught as I do, that the first 3 1/2 years were fulfilled in the first century.

So much for LCG standing on HWA.  They neither stand on HWA nor do they stand on the Word of God, rather they cloak their own false ideas by claiming that they are godly when they are NOT.  All of the major COG Groups in addition to Bob Thiel teach this gross error.

“Bible prophecy has long foretold an end-time conflict between a “king of the North” that will arise in Europe and a “king of the South” that will emerge in the Middle East (Daniel 11:40-43). It has become apparent that this is a conflict between “Christianity” and Islam. Jesus warned repeatedly that we should “watch” world events (Mark 13:29-37) because these prophecies will come to pass (Daniel 2:45; Isaiah 46:8-11). For more insight into these sobering times, read or listen to The Middle East in Prophecy.”

26 May:   The new moon was NOT seen from Jerusalem this evening, meaning that sunset ending the Sabbath of 27 May will begin the New Moon Appointed Time and the first day of the biblical third month which will be on  Sunday May 28.

The New Moons are commanded Appointed Times to worship God [hold Bible Studies] and to sound the Shofar in rejoicing.  For more on the new moons and the Biblical Sabbath and Calendar please see our free book available on the Home page.

The next new moon is expected to be visible from Jerusalem the evening of June 25, making June 26 the first day of the fourth biblical month.

Victor Kubik uses Pentecost to imply that UCG is the “church” that Christ started and that the brethren must be absolutely loyal to UCG n o matter what the leaders do.  Besides further enhancing the mind set, that changes being made in UCG are advances in understanding inspired by the Holy Spirit [remember these same men making the same claims in the Tkach WCG?], Victor is trying to combat the coming losses to UCG as so very many in UCG are seeking out information on where they might go after leaving UCG.

UCG graduates 26 from ABC.

On Monday 20 LCG Living U students graduated.  Living U now has 15 on campus students and a handful of Internet students.  The LCG Board met this week and the final takeover from Rod Meredith appears to be almost seamless.

The recent Germano tirade has driven many LCG brethren to TheShiningLight to see what the fuss is about.  It seems that many people are now asking deep questions that these folks cannot answer.

  1. Your post explaining how a tremendous effort was put in an attempt to thoroughly push through the 3/4 majorities vote in United is very much the truth. I was taken aback by being lobbied myself. Ucg brethren were being openly lobbied by the ministry to actually come forth with written support for or against the vote. This was totally unprecedented I have never had this happen to myself nor heard of this happening before in United.

They want to know who and how many are for and against: Sounds very suspiciously like the lead up to the COGWA split when the doctrinal change types polled the ministry on who would approve changes [until president Kilough found out about it and stopped that poll]. The first thing Denny said on becoming president was to call for an amicable divorce [split] in UCG

  2. Having been a member of the Ekklesia for 48 years it is so disheartening to see that the corporate ministry still suffers from the plague of spiritual Nicolaitism. It is a scourge which will continue to vex the members of the Ekklesia until Yahweh shelters them a place of refuge. Gerald Weston (LCG) and their hierarchs have a wonderful opportunity to change course and do things right, yet the N-plague has so infected them that recovery will be nigh impossible without God’s direct intervention.
